Camanche School Board

The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, June 19thPlease note that these are not the official minutes.  The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us). 

Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include: 

  •  The Board approved the Graduating Class of 2023 and offered their congratulations to the graduates, their families, and friends.
  •  The Board approved increasing the substitute teacher rate of pay to $140 per day.  Retired teachers from Camanche will be paid an additional $10 per day.
  • The Board approved the purchase of 100 Samsung Tablets for use by kindergarten students.  These will replace the current IPads that are being used that are at the end of their life cycle. 
  •  The Board discussed updates being proposed in the student and district handbooks.  Most of the changes were basically updating items.  There was a change made in the Good Conduct Code regarding handling Fine Arts one performance situations.  The Board approved the handbooks for the 2023-24 school year.
  • The Board approved renewing the district’s insurance coverage through EMC Insurance with Core Vens being the local contact.
  • The Board approved renewing a sharing agreement with the Northeast School District to provide a Social Worker who works in both districts.
  • The Board approved renewing a sharing agreement with the Central DeWitt School District and the Northeast School District to provide an English Language Learner Teacher who will work in all three districts.
  • The Board approved renewing the district’s membership in Rural School Advocates of Iowa, which tends to represent the interests of school districts the size of Camanche.
  • The Board approved renewing the district’s membership in Iowa School Finance Information Services for the upcoming school year.
  • The Board accepted and approved bids for milk from Prairie Farms Dairy, bread from Bimbo Bakeries, and continued participation in the Mississippi Valle Purchasing Group with a new contract with Kohl Wholesale of Quincy, Illinois.
  • To comply with USDA requirements, the Board approved raising the price for an adult lunch to $4.84.
  • The Board went into closed session for the annual evaluation of the Superintendent of Schools.

As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
