She thanked the school district for its years of support by making school grounds available for several of the Camanche Days events. The Board approved making school grounds available for the Camanche Days festival.
- The Board approved renewing the School Resource Officer sharing agreement with the City of Camanche. This program has been a very successful cooperative effort between the city and district that benefits all of our community. The Board not only appreciates the extra school security the SRO provides, but also the positive interaction opportunities that are created between our students and the police department.
- Superintendent Parker outlined the timelines for the school election which will occur this fall on November 7th. The terms of Travis Baker, Shane Bark, Albert McManus, and Brad Weber will be expiring. The 1st day for interested candidates to pick up filing papers will be August 28th and the last day to file the papers will be September 21st at 5:00 p.m.
- Superintendent Parker presented his Annual Report to the school board. As a part of this report, he also included each building principal’s Year-End Report. The main focus of this report was on how the district is implementing its Comprehensive School Improvement Plan. Key components of this include the use of a Professional Learning Community philosophy, supporting students with Multi-Tiered System of Supports, and the Iowa Core Curriculum. Additional topics in this report included among other things student assessments, school finance, and the Facilities Enhancement Project.
- The Board accepted the resignation of Director Stacy Kinkaid effective on July 31st. They also authorized publishing the notice of their intent to fill the vacancy by appointing a person to complete the term. The Board and Superintendent Parker thanked Stacy for her service to the children of the community.
- Superintendent Parker reported to the Board that the recent financial rating done by the Standard and Poors committee gave the school district a BBB+ rating. The district can improve upon this rating by building its cash reserves.
- The Board discussed and selected its Legislative Priorities for submission to the Iowa Association of School Boards. The Board’s priorities are Early Literacy; Support for At-Risk Students; Teacher Recruitment and Licensure; and School Funding.
As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
