The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, August 21st. Please note that these are not the official minutes. The official Agendas and Minutes from the Camanche Community School District school board are available and posted on our school district website (camanche.k12.ia.us).
Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:
- Before the meeting started, members of the school board toured the new auxiliary gym, the updated choir room, and the updated theatre areas. Much progress has been made over the summer. Students will have access to the choir room and auxiliary gym once school begins. We plan to have the fall musical be the initial production in the updated theatre. We are tentatively looking at scheduling a Celebration and Open House for these areas in mid-October.
- The Board took action to appoint Janna Linville-Morrow to the school board to fill the current vacancy. She will serve as a school board director until the November election when this position covering the final two years of filling this vacancy will be placed on the election ballot. The Board expressed their gratitude to Janna for being willing to serve on the Board.
- Superintendent Parker outlined the timelines for the school election which will occur this fall on November 7th. The terms of Travis Baker, Shane Bark, Albert McManus, and Brad Weber will be expiring. These are four-year terms. Also, there will be an additional position on the ballot to fill the remaining two years of the school board term that was just filled by appointment at this month’s meeting. The 1st day for interested candidates to file papers will be August 28th and the last day to file the papers will be September 21st at 5:00 p.m.
- The Board took action to approve extending the short-term operating loan for FY23 from Clinton National Bank until November and also approved participating in a short-term operating loan from Clinton National Bank for FY24.
- Superintendent Parker discussed the possibility of conducting a School Improvement Needs Assessment during this current school year. The Iowa Association of School Boards has a needs assessment that they would facilitate administering and analyzing. The Board indicated that they would be interested in doing this and requested that Superintendent Parker contact IASB to get this process started.
- The Board heard updates from representatives from Bray Architects and Estes Construction about the Facilities Enhancement Project and approved several Change Orders from this project as we near its completion.
- The Board approved an agreement with The Alverno which would allow them to use school facilities in Camanche for temporary shelter in the event they needed to evacuate their residents out of the City of Clinton.
As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
