The Camanche School District’s Board of Education met on Monday, September 18th. Please note that these are not the official minutes. Items to highlight from this school board meeting would include:
- Superintendent Parker reminded everyone that the school election which will occur this fall on November 7th. The terms of Travis Baker, Shane Bark, Albert McManus, and Brad Weber are expiring. These are four-year terms. Also, there will be an additional position on the ballot to fill the remaining two years of the school board term that was filled by appointing Janna Linville-Morrow at last month’s meeting.
- The Board is interested in conducting a School Improvement Needs Assessment possibly during November. This would be an on-line survey that the district would encourage community, students, and staff to participate in. The Iowa Association of School Boards can provide the assessment and would facilitate its administration and analysis. The Board plans to identify questions that they would like to add to this survey during a special meeting on October 11th.
- The Board heard updates from representatives from Bray Architects and Estes Construction about the Facilities Enhancement Project and approved several Change Orders from this project as we near its completion.
- Superintendent Parker indicated to the Board that he is looking to organize an Open House, Ribbon Cutting, and Cornerstone Ceremony to provide the community with an opportunity to tour and celebrate the opening of our new and renovated facilities made possible by the community’s support of our bond referendum.
- The Board approved a school district inter-fund loan from the voted Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) Fund to the General Fund. This money, plus interest, will be paid back to the voted PPEL Fund before October of fiscal year 2024.
- The Board approved renewing the 28E Agreement to continue being a member, with several regional school districts, of a consortium to provide the Partnership School for students who need specialized educational programing.
- The Board approved applying for Modified Allowable Growth from the state to cover the special education cost deficit from fiscal year 2023.
- The Board approved the renewal of the agreement with Eastern Iowa Community Colleges for Concurrent Enrollment Courses. This allows Camanche High School student to take courses that receive college credit along with high school credit.
- The principals provided the Board with information about all of the activities going on in their buildings and about what has been a very good start to the school year.
- Business Director Aude updated the Board about the status of several of the required reports being submitted to the state at this time of year.
As is usually the case, the school board completed the meeting by approving administrative recommendations regarding personnel.
