FROM MRS. MUNSON

CES students are learning “I will control my feelings; my feelings will not control me”. All feelings are ok. Experiencing strong feelings is a normal occurrence in life. Encourage your kids that it is ok to have comfortable feelings and uncomfortable feelings. It is normal to have strong feelings, but we need to make sure we handle them in an appropriate way. It is not ok to hurt someone else’s feelings or physically hurt others when we are feeling a strong emotion. Ask your student what strategies they use to help them to stay in control of their feelings. Here are some ways we can help our kids navigate their strong emotions: https://aliciaclarkpsyd.com/12-tips-parenting-child-intense-emotions/

Here are a few books to read with your student on feelings:

·       A to Z Do You Ever Feel Like Me? by Bonnie Hausman

·       Today I Feel Silly and Other Moods That Make My Day by Jamie Lee Curtis

·       Soda Pop Head by Julia Cook

·       When I Couldn’t Get Over It I Started Acting Differently by Bryan Smith

·       Even Superheroes Have Bad Days by Shelly Becker

Sincerely, Mrs. Munson
